Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Bonjour!

Hello!
I recently bought this AES and I am unsure which model it is.
It displays 60hz but the region seems to be EU, based on the Street Hoop screen (this games has 3 regions as far as I know), also for example Samurai Shodown 2 has english texts and green blood.
Also it displays full screen (no black borders) and speed wise its identical to my other japanese systems.
In the box, it says "PAL-B".
I dont see any traces that the board has been modified in any way, so Im wondering which model is this, and how can I solve the minor sync issue on the top of the screen when playing with Scart cable (with RF and composite, the image looks good, no problem there). I tried the official SNK scart cable and others I have at home, and all cables have the same issue.

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Hi there,
Inside the red circle you will see the model. As far as I know you have one of the first (and hence best) ones: NEC
The region is not determined by the game but by the console, which in your case is PAL. All games are internally identical, the only thing that changes are the cosmetics: sticker, manual and insert.
About your issue I'm not an expert, but there a lot of them here, I'm sure they will help you
Good luck

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
This is a factory repaired NeoGeo AES with a NEC NEO-AES motherboard
Originally the console’s power supply was a 5V but after the factory repair, they added a small pcb with a golden coil (the one on the upper side of cart slot), so your console now is a 9v I guess although the sticker on the underside may indicate a 5v psu
In AES world there are only 2 bioses : Japan bios Neo-PO and export bios Neo-EPO, only MVS had 3 bios regions : JP, US and Eur (which is equivalent to the Export bios)
On the upper right side of your console you should find the Bios and usually it’s printed on it
Judging by the small sync issue you have on the top of your screen, you may use a better scart cable that use CSync instead of composite sync, I had the same issue and solved it using a csync rgb cable

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
It’s in fact one of the first motherboard to come out. I've the same model ( except minor details )
Law serial : precisely under 30,000 first marketed.
You'll find the number on the sticker located on the back of the console.
C'est effectivement l'un des premières cartes mère. J'ai la même.
Première série : en-dessous des premières 30 000 commercialisées à travers le monde.
Tu trouveras d'ailleurs son numéro de série sur l'autocollant au dos de la console pour confirmer.

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Thank you for the answers! so seems a strange model indeed.
So this is a PAL EU model, that displays at 60hz? I had the impression all PAL models were 50hz, with the black borders. Are the first models an exception? Because it runs as fast as my other JPN models

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
There were some officially imported consoles in Europe and to comply to the PAL standart, those were underclocked at 50Hz
In every case they took an International AES with Export Bios and modded it to make it run at 50, that means the AES that aren’t officially imported in Europe were 60Hz with either Jap bios or Export bios

Oooh nice, great to know! I was not aware of these details, thanks for sharing! So I guess I got a "non-officially" imported version. But happy to have one!
Just curious, is the PCB in any way the same as the rental system, or its different?

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
as far as I know the motherboard you have is the so called rental revision, you have shielding under the hood, you have the PL24I5 daughter board and you even have the replacement power regulator on a small daughter board, because it seems to have been factory repaired at some time, someone might have plugged a 12v psu on a 5v console

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Thank you all for the clarifications! I guess its worth to keep it as it is then
I will buy a scart sync cable and see how this goes
Funny enough I was looking for a 50hz model and just got this one from a shop. the seller wasnt aware of this either. Worth the surprise!

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
if you are confortable enough with your soldering skills and IF the Din8 plug can be opened, you just need to desolder the sync from pin 3 and solder it to pin 7
you will lose the composite signal but would get much better RGBS video quality

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Im a total looser in soldering im attaching a video of the board. Im just curious how would the mod to 50hz and region be in this specific board? Because i dont see any signs of ntsc/pal and region switch.

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Just solder a strap as shown, however the picture was taken from another rev I think
It seems every motherboard revision starting from NEO-AES3-3 have the PAL pins
Why would you want a 50hz Neogeo ?? I’m not even sure you could make your NEO-AES motherboard run at 50

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Thank you! Yeah indeed this revision looks slighlty different.
i will not mod it and just leave it as it was originally manufactured.
My original intention was to buy a 50hz unit for collection purposes only, and when i received it thanks to you all i knew there was an export 60hz model too
All my other aes are japanese 60hz, so my quest for a pal 50hz will continue a bit more
On monday i will test with the new sync scart cable and see if the sync issue is gone
Thanks again for all the knowlegde sharing!

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
Great I hope your new cable would solve your issue (not really visible on consumer CRT anyway)
You seem to be living in Spain you may contact retrocables.es and especially make a order for a Csync neogeo cable, as far as I know they make the cable per order, I had to wait a few weeks before they delivered, but the cable I received was composite sync, I opened the Din8 and put the sync on Csync and my problems were solved

care to post a picture of your top cover of your AES ??
a 1st gen should have those typos, during the life span of the Neogeo the typo changed over time
pay special attention to the letter "G" and the letter "O"
original thread on this subject is here : https://www.neogeo-system.com/t13010-le-saviez-vous-les-inscriptions-de-nos-consoles-aes-ont-change-suivant-les-revisions
as you can see the lines PRO GEAR SPEC are different

no prob and from your video of your motherboard you do have an EXPORT BIOS which is the same as the International MVS BIOS : your Bios is NEO-EPO (E as in Export)

The cable arrived, I ordered this but the NeoGeo model - i can't find it anymore on their website, maybe I got the last one :
https://www.arcadexpress.com/es/cableado-consolas-rgb-av-scart/34-cable-rgb-scart-para-mega-drive-1-y-master-system.html
and it works perfect!
I added a video:
AoF2 Geese Video Scart Sync
So, another mystery solved thanks to you guys!
I will keep searching for the 50hz model, the quest will continue

Re: Which model is this AES board? Quel modèle est cette AES ?
You took a MegaDrive Cable and plugged into your AES ?? Definitely NOT recommanded though it can plug
The Din8 SNK is a C shape (called Din 8 270) where as the Din 8 SEGA is U shaped
It can work but will definitely break you connector in the long run …
DIN 8 comparison
http://retrocables.es/tienda/index.php?id_product=120&controller=product&id_lang=4
Try to contact retrocable.es and ask him whether he can plug the sync on pin 7
Edit : on the product page just select synch as CSYNC

glad to hear that your sync issue is solved with a Din 8 270 Neogeo cable, I'm just curious : just how many AES do you own ???
you're the first who want to collect a 50Hz AES, the majority of us just want to play (in 60Hz)

I currently have 4 aes systems, all them running at 60hz. Three of them are the different japanese versions (2 with old style joystick and 1 with the new style controller).plus the rental version we just discovered
My intention was to buy the 50hz model for collection purposes, as it was the original system i had 30 years ago
